Caspit Ltd., founded 1984, is a system house and a total solution provider for transaction automation; Caspit designs and supplies host computer systems, end user equipment, means of I.D., smart cards and related products on a turn-key basis.

Caspit's initial project was to establish a national credit card automation system that would work in unison with all the banks and credit card companies in Israel. This system has been operating commercially since 1986.

Caspit has since designed and supplied total solutions for financial systems, lottery, healthcare, public fax and phone and electronic purse facilities, universities, customer loyalty, and similar applications, in Israel and in Europe.

Since 1996, Caspit, through its affiliate Unicard Ltd., has been supporting a unified student smart card system, combining aspects of an I.D. card, portable file and electronic purse. With over 80,000 cards issued so far this is one of the largest systems of its kind in the world, and the first in Israel.

In early 1998, Caspit, in partnership with HP Israel and Microsoft Israel, ventured into an Internet commerce system, operating under the joint international Visa and MasterCard SET standard (Secure Electronic Transaction). This system, installed both at ICC-Visa's and Isracard-MasterCard's locations, will enable Israel-based clients to purchase goods and services securely over the Internet.

In addition to promoting its own products, Caspit also represents several international companies in Israel, such as Gemplus of France and VeriFone of the USA, as well as other manufacturers of terminals, printers, cards, card accepting devices, software and related products.

Caspit, currently supporting nearly 20,000 installations, has a nationwide presence with toll free help desk facilities, remote software maintenance and a fleet of field technicians, supporting all aspects of hardware, software and training.

Caspit founds its approach to transactions upon the belief that all transactions, although varied in purpose, are very similar in nature and structure. With this in mind, Caspit has specialized in end-to-end solutions.

The main implementation of such systems is still as payment schemes, but more and more applications are being installed in areas such as health insurance, education, lottery, procurement, communications, and many more.

Despite the technical overlap, Caspit's products can easily be split into three product domains:

Hosts - for the central organization, banks, HMO's and similar organizations. Points of service - end equipment, terminals, printers. Customer domains - means of identification, smart cards, PIN pads. These product domains support the way people do business and get service:
